DESI BOYZ

''See, all said and done, DESI BOYZ is one of those big fat Hindi masala films,'' reaffirms Rohit, ''This is the kind of cinema that I have grown up on and it is this genre that allows me to have all the necessary ingredients that ensure good all-around entertainment for the audience. Also, let me tell you that DESI BOYZ is not a one track genre; you won't hear those countless rhyming punch-lines ever now and then. It isn't as if my sole intention was to make people come in and only laugh. I have seen my dad do that and trust me, it's an extremely difficult thing to do. I would rather make .

Audience have started warming up to the promos of Akshay Kumar-John Abrahamstarrer
and while one waits to see how does the eventual product indeed look like, one thing is quite apparent that first time director Rohit Dhawan has an eye for visuals. DESI BOYZ is indeed looking like a big film while the grandeur is pretty noticeable as well. However beneath the good looking frames, one wonders how Rohit has ensured that there is a definite story to tell as well.
Talking about the kind of work David Dhawan has done over last three decades, Rohit says with a sense of respect, ''I strongly feel that there is no pointing aping someone who has made dozens of superhits and blockbusters over the years gone by. Instead of being a wannabe David Dhawan, I have tried to take a different route and hence my humour is little subtle here.''

KOI MIL GAYA

koi Mil Gaya, released in 2003, is a Bollywood science fiction film revolving around a mentally retarded person who comes in contact with a friendly alien. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the film has Hrithik Roshan, Rekha and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. The movie has been known to be adapted from the 1967 film The Alien directed by Satyajit Ray. This highly acclaimed movie got many national awards to its credit including the Best Movie. A perfect movie to watch out for on Children’s Day indeed! It has all the ingredients that a kid’s movie should possess - comedy, humor, entertainment, connection, etc. Check out the plot and summary of Koi Mil Gaya by going through the following lines.

The movie begins with Sindhi Canadian scientist Sanjay Susra Mehra (Rakesh Roshan) creating a computer that is capable of contacting aliens. He creates many variations of the syllable “Om” in order to attract the attention of extraterrestrial life. Finally one day, he receives a response and hurries to the space-research center to inform the scientists only to be scoffed at. Humiliated, he returns back home along with his pregnant wife, Sonia (Rekha). On the way, he notices an alien spaceship in his vicinity resulting in an accident due to the confusion.

Sanjay throws Sonia out of the car and dies on the spot. Sonia survives and returns back to India; however the unborn child suffers brain damage. Sonia delivers a baby boy, Rohit, albeit with serious mental disabilities. Rohit (Hrithik Roshan) grows up to a young man with limited intellect and childish personality. Nonetheless, he has a loving heart, some good young friends with whom he spends most of his time. Enters Nisha (Preity Zinta), who is instantly befriended by Rohit and his friends. Soon, Nisha learns about Rohit’s mental disability from Sonia and feels sympathy for him.

Rohit and Nisha become friends and share a good rapport. They find the old computer made by Sanjay and accidentally call in the aliens. The aliens visit the city but leave back one alien. Rohit finds the alien and hides him in his house. Nisha and Rohit’s friends too come to know about the new alien and name him ‘Jadoo’. Jadoo treats Rohit of his mental disability by using his magic thereby transforming Rohit into a normal adult. Raj (Nisha’s suitor), along with his buddies make several attempts to embarrass Rohit, but thanks to Jadoo, Rohit manages to overcome all situations with his ‘new’ mental caliber.

Rohit and Nisha get closer to each which results in Rohit proposing marriage to Nisha who readily agrees. Meanwhile, the government comes to know about the alien that was left back. They narrow their search to Jadoo who is protected by Rohit. He helps Jadoo to get back to his spaceship using Sanjay’s Om computer. Jadoo flees but Rohit again turns mentally disabled. However, Rohit is restored back with the special abilities that Jadoo has conferred upon him. The movie ends on a happy note with Rohit and Nisha patching up together.

ALADIN

Far off in a beautiful city in China a ragged urchin called Aladdin used to play in the street. His father, a poor tailor, tried to make him work, but Aladdin was lazy and disobedient, and refused even to help in his father's shop. Even after his father died Aladdin still preferred to roam in the streets with his friends, and did not feel ashamed to eat the food his mother bought with the money she earned by spinning cotton.
One day a wealthy stranger came to the city. He noticed Aladdin in the street and thought, "That lad looks as though he has no purpose in life. It will not matter if I use him, then kill him."
The stranger quickly found out that Aladdin's father was dead. He called Aladdin over to him.
"Greetings, nephew," he said, "I am your father's brother.. I have returned to China only to find my clear brother, Mustapha, is dead. Take this money and tell your mother I shall visit her."
Aladdin's mother was puzzled when Aladdin told her the stranger's message. "You have no uncle," she said. "I don't understand why this man should give us money."
The next day the stranger came to their house and talked about how he had loved
his brother and offered to buy a fine shop where Aladdin could sell beautiful things to the rich people in the city. He gave Aladdin some new clothes and in a short while Aladdin's mother began to believe this man was a relation.
The stranger now invited Aladdin to go with him to the rich part of the city. Together they walked through beautiful gardens and parks where Aladdin had never been before. At last the stranger showed Aladdin a flat stone with an iron ring set into it.
"Lift this stone for me, nephew," he said, "and go into the cavern below. Walk through three caves where you will see gold and silver stored. Do not touch it. You will then pass through a garden full of wonderful fruit and beyond the trees you will find a lamp. Pour out the oil and bring the lamp to me. Pick some of the fruit on your return if you wish."
Aladdin lifted the stone and saw some steps leading down into a cave. He was frightened to go down but the stranger placed a gold ring with a great green emerald on his finger.
"Take this ring as a gift," he said, "but you must go or I shall not buy you a shop."
Now the stranger was in fact a magician. He had read about a lamp with magical powers and he had travelled far to find it. He knew the magic would not work for him unless the lamp was fetched from the cavern and handed to him by someone else. After Aladdin had brought him the lamp the magician planned to shut him in the cave to die.
Down in the cavern Aladdin found all as he had been told. He hurried through the rooms filled with silver and gold, and passed through the garden where the trees were hung with shimmering fruit of all colours. At the far end stood an old lamp. Aladdin took it, poured out the oil, and then picked some of the dazzling fruit from the trees as the magician had suggested. To his surprise they were all made from stones. Aladdin took as many as he coul carry and returned to the steps.
"Give me the lamp," demanded the magician as soon as Aladdin came into sight.
"Help me out first," replied Aladdin who could not hand him the lamp because his arms were so full. They argued fiercely until crash, the stone slab fell back into place. The magician could not move the stone from the outside, nor Aladdin from within. He was trapped. The magician knew he had failed in his quest and decided to leave the country at once.
For two days Aladdin tried to get out of the cave. He became weak with hunger and thirst and finally as he sat in despair he rubbed his hands together. By chance he rubbed the gold ring that the stranger had given him. There was a blinding flash and a genie appeared. "I am the genie of the ring. What can I do for you, master?"
"Get me out of here," Aladdin gasped. He was terrified of the great burning spirit of the genie glowing in the cavern. BefOre he knew what had happened he was standing on the ground above the entrance to the cavern. Of the stone slab there was no sign. Aladdin set off for home and collapsed with hunger as he entered the house.
His mother was overjoyed to see him. She gave him all the scraps of food she had and when she said she had no more Aladdin suggested selling the lamp to buy some food.
"I'll get a better price for it, if it's clean," she thought, and she rubbed the lamp with a cloth. In a flash the genie appeared. Aladdin's mother fainted in horror but Aladdin seized the lamp. When the genie saw him with the lamp it said:
"I am the genie of the lamp. What can I do for you, master?"
"Get me some food," ordered Aladdin.

By the time his mother had recovered there were twelve silver dishes of food and twelve silver cups on the table. Aladdin and his mother ate as they had never eaten before. They had enough for several days, and then Aladdin began to sell the silver dishes and cups. He and his mother lived comfortably in this way for some time.
Then it happened that Aladdin saw the sultan's daughter, Princess Badroulboudoir. Aladdin loved her at first sight and sent his mother to the sultan's court to ask the sultan permission for the princess to marry him. He told her to take as a gift the stone fruits he had brought from the cave.
It was several days before Aladdin's mother could speak with the sultan, but at last she was able to give him the stone fruits. The sultan was truly amazed.
"Your son has such fine jewels he would make a good husband for my daughter, I am sure," he told Aladdin's mother.
But the sultan's chief courtier was jealous. He wanted his son to marry the princess.Quickly, he advised the sultan to say he would decide on the marriage in three months' time. Aladdin was happy when he heard the news.
But at the palace, the chief courtier spoke against Aladdin and when Aladdin's mother returned in three months, the sultan asked her: "Can your son send me forty golden bowls full of jewels like the ones he sent before only this time carried by forty servants?"
Aladdin rubbed the lamp once more and before long forty servants each carrying a gold bowl filled with sparkling jewels were assembled in the courtyard of their little house.
When the sultan saw them, he said:
"I am sure now that the owner of these riches will make a fine husband for my daughter."
But the chief courtier suggested yet another test. "Ask the woman," he said, "if her son has a palace fit for your daughter to live in."
"I'll give him the land and he can build a new palace," declared the sultan, and he presented Aladdin with land in front of his own palace. Aladdin summoned the genie of the lamp once more. Overnight the most amazing palace appeared with walls of gold and silver, huge windows, beautiful halls and courtyards and rooms filled with treasures. A carpet of red velvet was laid from the old palace to the new, for the princess to walk on to her new home. Aladdin then asked the genie for some fine clothes for himself and his mother, and a glorious wedding took place.
Aladdin took care always to keep the wonderful lamp safe. One day the princess gave it to an old beggar who was the magician in disguise, but that story will have to keep for another time.

SLUMDOG MILLENIORE

the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Kaun Banega Crorepati?" (2000) (Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?) But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. Each chapter of Jamal's increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out. At the heart of its storytelling lies the question of how anyone comes to know the things they know about life and love. Written by

chak de india

The film opens in Delhi, India during the final minutes of the Hockey World Cup. The game is between the Pakistan men's national field hockey team and the India men's nation fieldhockeyteam, with Pakistan leading, 1-0. When Indian team captain and hockey superstar, Kabir Khan (Shahrukh Khan) is fouled, he elects to take the penalty stroke himself. However, his strike flies just above the goal, and India suffers a crushing defeat. Soon after, the media begins to circulate a photograph of him accepting a handshake from the head of the Pakistani team, speculating that Khan (who is a Muslim might have "thrown" the game as an act of sympathy towards Pakistan. The religious prejudice exhibited towards Khan by the entire society at large forces him and his mother out of their ancestral home and into exile.
Seven years later, Indian sport officials are surprised to learn that Khan wants to coach the Indian woman's field hockey team, a job no one else wants (an official claims the only long term role for women is to "cook and clean"). Khan thus finds himself in charge of a group of 16 women from all sections of India, who are divided by their own competitive natures and individual prejudices. One of the youngest players, Komal  Chitrashi Rawat (from a village in Haryana conflicts with Preeti Sabarwal (Sagarika Ghatge) from Chandigarh whom she refers to derisively as "memsaab" while tough girl Balbir Kaur (Tanya Abrol) from the Punjab has an extremely short temper that impacts the team. Balbir also bullies Rani Dispotta (Seema Azmi) and Soimoi Kerketa (Nisha Nair), who are both from remote villages in Jharkhand. Mary Ralte (Kimi Laldawla) from Mizoram and Molly Zimik (Masochon "Chon Chon" Zimik) from Manipur (in North-East Inda) are both treated as "foreign" by virtually everyone they meet and face repeated sexual harassment. The team's captain, Vidya Sharma (Vidya Malvade), is forced to choose between hockey and the wishes of her husband's family, while Preeti's boyfriend, the (fictional) vice captain of the India national cricket team Abimanyu Singh (Vivan Bhatena), is deeply threatened by her involvement with the team.
Khan realizes that he can only turn the girls into a winning team if he can help them to overcome these divisions and learn to cooperate with and help each other. Thus during the first few days, he benches a number of players who refuse to conform to his rules, including the most experienced player, Bindia Naik (Shilpa Shukla). In response, she repeatedly attempts to encourage the players to revolt against Khan. Bindia finally succeeds and in anger, Khan resigns. As a sign of good will, however, he invites the staff and team to a going away lunch. The anger that the team felt towards Khan and each other evaporates, however, when some local boys make a pass at Mary and Molly. In response Balbir attacks them, an act which leads to a brawl between the boys and the entire team. Khan, recognizing that this is their first instance of working together as a team, repeatedly prevents the staff from intervening. His only action is to stop a man from striking one of the women with a cricket bat from behind, telling him that there are no cowards (with a double entendre meaning of the Hindi word for coward) in hockey. After the fight, the women (now bonded as a team) beg Khan to remain as their coach.
This newly found unity serves them through a series of additional challenges. When hockey officials suddenly decide not to send the women's team to Australia for The World Championship, the girls unite in a challenge match against the men's team. Despite losing this match, their superb performance on the field forces the officials to change their mind and send the team to The World Championship. Once in Australia, the team faces a number of difficult matches with teams such as the Hockeyroos (Australia), the Black Sticks Women (New Zealand), the Las Leonas (Argentina), and the South Korean team (known for its use of the man-to-man marking technique). While initially still working to overcome their differences throughout the matches, the girls learn to act as a single unit. This move eventually leads them to victory and the restoration of Khan's good name. In doing so, they not only destroy the prejudices which once separated them, but prove to their families and country the merit of women's athletics. At the end, Khan returns with his mother to their ancestral home, welcomed by those who had shunned them years before and continues to be the Indian Women's field hockey coach.
